Web users seeking to get that ideal domain name but frustrated by the lack of available .com extensions now have a new, free alternative. For a limited time, the world”s number 1 web host, 1&1 Internet, is offering new customers .info domains at no charge for one year. The offer is not applicable to internal or external domain transfers.
According to www.Afilias.info:
.INFO is the Internet”s first unrestricted top-level domain since .COM, which began use in 1985. Intuitive, easy to use, and universally recognized, .INFO domain names are your opportunity to reach a worldwide audience with information about you, your ideas, or your organization.
Recent studies show that Web users are increasingly gravitating to .info domains as a viable addition or alternative to .com addresses. One report stated that nearly 70 percent of the world”s most valuable brands, including the likes of MTV, BMW, Gap and Coca-Cola maintain .info addresses. Overall, some 2 million .info domains have been registered worldwide. With the latest offer from 1&1 Internet, this number is sure to rise even more.

After long delays and much debate the proposal for the .XXX top-level domain was voted on by the Internet”s top regulatory board, ICANN, on Wednesday.
The ICANN body voted nine to five to reject the proposal which had been supported by the both adult content industry and child safety advocates. Opposing its creation were ICANN Chairman Vint Cert and CEO Paul Twomey.
Although mobile devices and the networks that support them are improving, it seems like the mobile Web is almost a secret these days because sites can be hard to locate and have little content when you find them. And yet, with four mobile phones purchased for every one personal computer, there””s a world of people whose main access point to the Internet is a mobile device.
Beginning in May 2006, there is finally a solution: .MOBI.
MOBI is the first – and only – top level domain dedicated to delivering the Internet to mobile devices. MOBI will revolutionise the use of the Internet on mobile devices. .MOBI is designed to guide mobile users to made-for-mobile Internet content and services that can be accessed with confidence.
